Le Synopte

See the passing of time differently

with this alternative to the classic clock !

Montessori Inspiration

A very special clock !

The Synopte® is a clock with such specific and singular characteristics that it has quickly become a point of reference in time orientation.

A handcrafted product entirely made in our workshops !

The Synopte® is the clever combination of a 24-hour clock, a time schedule, a magnetic activity board and a Time Timer !

This clock, specially designed to be easily and quickly located during the day, is based on concrete visual cues rather than hours. It received an award at the Concours Lépine in 2006 and won the Prix Ocirp in 2010.

Le Synopte

Who is it for exactly ?

Alice

Alice

Alice is an occupational therapist at a rehabilitation centre. Thanks to The Synopte®, she has enabled Pierre, who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease, to regain maximum autonomy. By presenting The Synopte® as a tool that has nothing to do with a traditional clock, Alice allowed Pierre to appropriate it very quickly and to keep the main points of reference that structure his day. He is less anxious and can anticipate events again. For him, the playful side of this tool clearly contributes to giving meaning to the passing of time !

Cathy

Cathy

Cathy is the mother of a visually impaired boy with a disorder on the autism spectrum. With The Synopte®, she has finally found a tool that she can adapt as her child’s needs evolve. For her son and for her, it is very reassuring not to have to constantly look for a new tool but to simply modify the tool they have according to the evolution of their needs.

Mélissa

Mélissa

Melissa is an educator at a Montessori school. His students are between 3 and 6 years old. They are in the so-called “representative” phase of the structuring of time : they need to visualize, locate, estimate, measure and memorize. According to her, at this stage of the child’s cognitive development, The Synopte® is an essential tool to solidly construct the notion of time.

Serge

Serge

Serge is a globetrotter. His work regularly leads him to regions of the world very far from his Parisian home. The Synopte® is the ideal way for him to display on the same dial the time difference between his local rhythm and the rhythm of his family in Paris (yellow for day, and black for night). He can thus clearly visualize on the dial (in pink) the two time slots during which he can video call his family each day !

Benjamin

Benjamin

Benjamin is resolutely opposed to the dictatorship of time : the quasi-obligation to always have to manage his time (organize, optimize and control it) exhausts him and decreases his productivity. To relieve stress and unleash his creativity, he used only soft colours on his Synopte®, a few hour markers, and some unicorns, to the delight of his 5-year-old daughter ! With this clock, he feels that he has gained a lot in terms of quality of life and family harmony !

Loïc

Loïc

Loïc is a team leader in a production workshop. He must manage schedules rigorously and methodically. As his teams are running in 3 x 8, a 24-hour clock was needed to facilitate coordination between each team. Using a very precise color code, everyone now checks off the task they have just completed directly on the Synopte®’s dial, which considerably improves monitoring and responsiveness in the event of a problem.

The Synopte® is customizable !

Each Synopte® is unique : it’s up to you to create the one that best suits your desires and needs.

You can use the accessories provided and of course you can create your own accessories with your photos, drawings, felt pens and colored paper… Feel free to share your creations with us !

Words in foreign languages

Words in foreign languages

Customize the dial in the language of your choice and even display the words in multiple languages for the user to memorize them.
The hands

The hands

If you are very careful, and as long as you don't unbalance the hour hand by weighing down its end, you can stick a small, very light paper accessory on it : a photo of the user, a small sun, or even a thin strip of paper to give the hand the color of your choice.
Weekdays

Weekdays

Indicate the current day on the Synopte® dial or, if you wish, place the 7 days of the week to allow the user to quickly identify the highlight of a given day, such as "swimming pool" on Thursday or "cinema" on Friday...
The pictograms

The pictograms

Place the schedule of the day's different activities directly on the dial. You can cut out circular arcs that indicate the precise duration of an activity, or simply place punctual pictograms at a given time.
The colored areas

The colored areas

Concretely create different periods of the day to help the user distinguish them. You can color directly on the dial or create your own color sections : you can cut a magnetic tape-adhesive to make all your accessories magnetic.
The hours

The hours

Display the hours from 0 to 23, from 1 to 24 or twice 1 to 12... display them all or only some, or maybe none ! Set the time you want at the top : the time that marks the middle of the night or the beginning of your day... it's up to you !

What they say about it…

« Representing the passing of time is a primary concern for those who work with people who have difficulty finding their way around, because how can we structure a concept that we do not understand ? The Synopte® acts upstream : by clearly representing, it allows for understanding and then structuring. This makes it an indispensable tool. »

« At home, The Synopte® is in the entrance and our son consults it regularly to find his bearings during the day. This avoids questions like, “Have we ever eaten the big meal ?” ... But what Alois especially appreciates is seeing what's left of the day before going to bed ! »
Maud

Maud

Mother of Alois, 5 and a half years old
« With The Synopte®, we’re not a minute away : the larger the activity symbol, the longer the time period it covers... it can even be moved, if necessary ! »

Hélène

Grandmother of Elena, 6 years old
« Mom was totally losing track of time and that made her more and more passive. I was looking for a tool that would help her without infantilizing her and The Synopte® was a revelation ! I was afraid she would reject it (like that cane she stubbornly refuses to admit she now needs for walking !), but instead she placed The Synopte® prominently in her living room and she happily explains it to anyone who asks her about this unusual object ! It's a pleasure to hear her demonstrate it. She refers to it all the time and it reassures her a lot. Without this tool, she would certainly be lost again. »

« For my son, The Synopte® brings the ray of light that illuminates his night. But this clock also helps my daughter ! Every evening, with her brother, she participates in the implementation of the next day's pictograms, and when she gets up in the morning, she goes straight to The Synopte® to change the cursor of the day ! She does not yet know how to read but she has already spotted the days of the week and how they are written. Throughout the day, she watches the hour hand to see if it's time to eat, to snack... and sometimes she even reminds her brother that it's time for him to do his homework, in case he forgets ! »
Sandrine

Sandrine

Mother of Leo, 9 years old, with cognitive impairment, and Mia, 4 years old
« The correspondence between the 2 time systems (on 12 and 24 hours) is already no secret to Maxime... he has even made a game of it ! A true children's game ! »
Henri

Henri

Maxime's father, 7 years old
« The rhythm of the seasons is better integrated when you can see the variations of the sunrise and sunset throughout the year directly on the dial : on this day, in the middle of winter, it was dark around 6 pm ! »
